I awoke at night, alone, afraid in all the darkness. There was no stir, no sound, no life in all that dreary night-
Was all the world gone dead?
Was there no life?
I stood to look and search the valleys and hills - both low and high,
And then I heard a sigh, a moan, an agonizing cry.
I saw men, women, children lay all in that inky night,
Some sick, some crippled, and about to die.
I cried, "Oh, God, long is the night!
When, where, O Lord will come the light?"
He said, "Look high, the eastern sky-
Behold, the bright morn draweth nigh."
And I lifted up my eyes, the sky became a beaming gold.
The sun rose triumphant, with a mighty glory untold
All sin and sorrow, and pain and tears, and darkness flew away.
...Thank you.
