HAITI UPDATE #3 - February 1, 2010

As I spoke to Linda Adams, ICCM Director, last night from Haiti, her heart broke as she saw the devastation in Port au Prince from the earthquake that struck more than 2 weeks ago.  Many families have lost their homes and are now living in refugee camps and have scattered throughout the country.  The 10 ICCM schools that have been assessed need to be rebuilt because they are not structurally sound. We have confirmed that no children were inside these schools.  Today, the team will inspect the other 5 schools in the most damaged area - downtown.  As the team travels through Port au Prince, we will have more information about our ICCM children in the next few weeks.         

Aid has been provided by the FM church in the Dominican Republic; specifically water and food have been driven across the Dominican border.  Although schools have not been reopened, the feeding programs have continued to help children and families with much needed nourishment.  

Last week as I worshipped with the First Free Methodist church in New Westminster, BC, they included a special offering for Haiti and I know that many other churches across the country have done the same.  I am grateful for the generosity of our FM churches and our dear partners who have children in Haiti.  Since 15 days ago, we have raised a total of $13,373.54.  Donations can be sent by cheque made out to International Child Care Ministries; indicating the funds are for the "Haiti Quake Relief Fund" or via our website http://www.childcareministries.net.  Please note that we are not eligible to match your donation. 

As I have spoken to many pastors and partners, the support for Haiti has been overwhelming and as we join together to pray and support our brothers and sisters in Haiti may they be reminded of God's promise of hope and His faithfulness.

HAITI UPDATE #2 - January 27, 2010

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, we have received this update from our ICCM coordinator Mondale Perkins: "God is alive and faithful!  Parc Chretien School (HA500) is safe. The church and the ICCM office were badly hit, but still standing; I can't believe I am still alive".  We rejoice together in this message from Mondale!

Since the aftershock on Wednesday, January 20, we have received word that other ICCM schools have been affected outside of the Port au Prince area; though at this time we do not have any additional information concerning these schools. 

We are thankful that our ICCM office staff have all been accounted for, suffering only minor injuries.  Our school directors (who are also our Free Methodist pastors) are all accounted for as well.    

This week, more teams will be sent into Haiti to assess the damage and to work with our Haitian partners.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE UPDATES

1/13/10 11:00 am.  The 7.0 earthquake near Port-au-Prince, Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, has devastated many buildings.  Casualties are expected to be high.

ICCM has learned that some of our facilities are down.  ICCM's Haiti office is in Port-au-Prince, we have 53 schools throughout the island nation, and sponsor over 8,000 children in Haiti.  Please join us in prayer for all impacted by this tragedy.

We have had no word at this time regarding ICCM casualties.  If you sponsor a Haitian child and we learn that the child you partner with has been affected, we will make every effort to contact you as soon as possible.
